How should I use the search functionality?
Currently we make use of quite a simple search functionality. For now we only perform a search on the name of the golfclub. So, if you are looking for ' Amelisweerd' you should enter that in the search box. Als only filling in the three first letters is sufficient ("Ame").
Why are only a few golfclubs rated/reviewed?
Because we just started, not all golfclubs have been rated by our members. In order to write a review you must be a member of Leadingcourses. We think this is necessary to avoid fraud and to be able to contact people who we think are not using our service as they are supposed to. Unfortunately anonymity often causes such behaviour.
I think a few golfclubs or courses are missing, can I inform you about that?
Sure! We can only keep this website up-to-date with all of your help. If you are missing an entire golfclub, please tell us [here]. If you are missing a golfcourse (belonging to an existing golfclub), then you are able to add that at that specific golfclub.
I think something is not correctly filled in for a golfclub/course, can I inform you about that?
Sure! We can only keep this website up-to-date with all of your help. If something is not correct for a specific golfcourse or golfclub, then you are able to add that at that specific golfclub/golfcourse.
Why should I become a member of Leadingcourses?
To make use of certain services (writing reviews, uploading images) you must be a member. We think this is necessary to avoid fraud and to be able to contact people who we think are not using our service as they are supposed to. Unfortunately anonymity often causes such behaviour.
Why do I need to register to write a review?
To write reviews you must be a member of Leadingcourses. We think this is necessary to avoid fraud and to be able to contact people who we think are not using our service as they are supposed to. Unfortunately anonymity often causes such behaviour.
Could you tell me what the greenfee amount represents?
To avoid any unpleasant surprises we always display the highest possible greenfee (that is for a player without a club). The greenfee is also always based on 18 holes (if possible).
Why do you make a distinction between a golfclub and a golfcourse?
In our opinion a golfclub is not the same as a golfcourse. A golfclub can have several golfcourses (like Spaarnwoude or Het Rijk van Nijmegen). Also, sometimes 9 holes courses are combined with other 9 holes courses, in order to create a full 18 holes course.
Money was not the prime goal to set this up. We really want to help golfers to make the right choice. Especially if you are on a (golf)trip you only want to play on great courses. For now, to cover the costs, we have placed Google Adsense and banners on our website.
Why do I only see golfclubs and golfcourse of several countries?
Being a Dutch initiative it is clear why that is the case, although we are rapidly expanding to other European countries. Currently we are adding new countries every month. However, we do want to be complete and accurate, so that is why that will take some preparation.
No. To make use of certain services (writing reviews, uploading images) you must be a member. We think this is necessary to avoid fraud and to be able to contact people who we think are not using our service as they are supposed to. Unfortunately anonymity often causes such behaviour.
Is every review or photo published on the website?
No, not for now. We check every review on forehand. Photo's will be published directly, but they can also be removed by our administrators. Although we strongly believe in communities, we think that you must be careful with quality in the initial stage. If this quality is poor, people will not return. In a later stage we could choose to ask the community to monitor the quality of the website.
Will you add more functionalities soon to the website?
Yes. We will add new and useful functionalities from this point and onwards. However, we will not place golf newsitems or anything like that. We are not a golfportal, but a website where you are able to find and check great golfclubs, quickly.
What does 'course rating' mean in the detailpage of a course?
The course rating is a numerical value given to each set of tees at a particular golf course to approximate the number of strokes it should take a scratch golfer to get around the course. Each course is rated for each set of tees, and most have separate ratings for some of the tees for women.
For now, we only display course ratings for medaltees on our website.
What does 'slope rating' mean in the detailpage of a course?
Slope rating is a measurement of the difficulty of a course for bogey golfers relative to the course rating. Course rating tells scratch golfers how difficult the course will be; slope rating tells bogey golfers how difficult it will be.
The minimum slope is 55 and the maximum is 155 (slope does not relate specifically to strokes played as course rating does). The slope rating for a course of average difficulty is 113.
Like course rating, slope rating is done for each set of tees on a course, and a course may have a separate slope rating for certain tees for women.
For now, we only display slope ratings for medaltees on our website.
What does 'compare course' mean at the detailpage of a course?
A compact course a not a 'real' course, but just a practise course (often a par-3 course). On these course you can practise your chipping and pitching game. We do not display the number of holes for a compact course at the information of a club, just if a practise course is available.
